Western States Championships
The Western States Championships was played on July 26 - 28 in "everybody's hometown", Prescott, Arizona.
Prescott is home to Frontier Days, Whiskey Row, Junior Bonner, 4 golf courses, 2 colleges, Bucky's Casino and the Yavapai County Courthouse.
Prescott is green and beautiful in the summertime and prone to summer monsoon storms as all hometown softball players can tell you.
In 2013, Prescott was also home to the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who lost their lives fighting the Yarnell Hill fire.
Against this backdrop, 37 softball teams played in the Western States tournament. The entire Rocco's team wore #19 on their team jerseys to pay tribute to the hotshots who died one month earlier running towards the danger to protect us all.
Congratulations to all the champions and thanks to all the teams, players and spectators.

Kick-Off Classic Inducts Doc Metcalf
Glorious weather and perfect field conditions were on tap for the 2012 Kick-Off Classic held on January 21 & 22 at Papago and Victory Lane parks in Phoenix, Arizona. As Tony Jenson of Rustys said, "It was like playing on a putting green."
In all 23 teams participated in the Kick-Off Classic. When the dust had settled, every team had played at least five games and there were seven champions crowned.
The highlight of the tournament was the induction ceremony of Doc Metcalf, player, SSUSA director, SSUSA ambassador and all around good guy. Doc was inducted into the SSUSA Hall of Fame on January 21 at Papago Park.
Earlier in the week, chief executive officer, Terry Hennessy and executive director, Fran Dowell made a special trip to Phoenix to present Doc with his SSUSA Hall of Fame ring. In 2012, the Kick-Off Classic will be renamed to the Doc Metcalf Hall of Fame Invitational.
